Hinstock Fun Day
It had taken a lot of hard work by Jen Humphreys, Claire Dunn and Tracy Evans. This was their first attempt at organising a Fun Day. Those of us who've lived here for a while and know the Fun Days of old have seen grown men burst into tears and tear their hair out when they've organised them. It's a daunting task, no doubt about that.
It was a dull day and rain came later in the afternoon . But, as has been shown before, Hinstockians are not deterred by a bit of rain. There were attractions for children - Bouncy Castle, face painting and races. The Fire Brigade brought one of their fire engines along. And children enjoyed being able to sit in a police car and switch the flashing lights and siren on ! There were various stalls selling produce, the 2nd Hodnet Scout Group had a marquee and The Falcon had set up a temporary bar which did a good trade. You could also have a go at Skittles, run by John Lutner who had gone several rounds with a wasps' nest the previous day ! The W.I. did a roaring trade in the Memorial Hall serving light refreshments, including home-made cakes.
Congratulations go to Jen, Claire and Tracy. First attempt it might have been but it was a good one. We sincerely hope it won't be the last. Lessons have been learned from the experience. I was approached by several people who said they were pleased that the Fun Day had been resurrected - and wanted assurance that there would be one next year.
