Leisure

Background/Evidence

Pre-questionnaire research indicated wide interest in new leisure activities/facilities. Almost 30% of those expressing a view were dissatisfied with leisure opportunities in the Parish. 36% of households quoted a lack of activities of interest as a main barrier to their participation in Parish leisure activities. Over 30% of adults expressed interest in 'Flicks in the Sticks'. Four suggested activities (bike, football, discos, sports lessons) attracted interest from at least 25% of under 16s (both as reported by adult Respondents and by young people directly - especially under 11s). The under 11 group was overwhelmingly in favour of some kind of play/meeting area and the 12-17 group most often mentioned social isolation due to distance and lack of transport as the main drawback of the area.

Objectives

1. To identify, encourage and promote existing and new local leisure activities for all
sections of the community focussing particularly on those activities for which there is
evidence of strong popular demand and which would be likely to be self-sufficient.
2. To campaign for appropriate facilities, particularly in any new Village hall.
