PRESS RELEASE issued by Shropshire Council
December 2009
Money, food and local homes on agenda at local meeting
How Shropshire Council should spend its money, and how families could save £50 a month of theirs jjust by wasting less food, will be two of the main items on the agenda when the St Oswald & Llanymynech Local Joint Committee meets at Kinnerley Parish Hall on Wednesday 13 January. Doors will open at 6.30pm giving people a chance to talk to Parish and Shropshire Councillors and Shropshire Council officers before the meeting proper starts at 7pm. St Oswald and Llanymynech Local Joint Committee covers the parishes of Kinnerley, Knockin, Llanyblodwel, Lllanymynech and Pant, Oswestry Rural, and Melverley. All people living in these areas are invited to attend the meeting. At the meeting there will be a presentation about how the council plans to spend its budget in the year 2010/11, and people will have the chance to have their say about these plans as part of a countywide consultation. There will also be a presentation about Shropshire Council's Love Food Hate Waste campaign, which aims to offer advice and information about how to waste less food and save money as a result. There will also be a talk by planning officers from the council about the issue of local homes for local people. The meeting will also decide which of the 12 bids for funding from the committee's £8,000 community fund have been successful. Bids for funding have been received from organisations and groups including Knockin Assembly Rooms, a community woodland in Kinnerley, Llanymynech Juniors Football Club, Pant Pigeon Club and the Telescope News Editorial team. Councillor Arthur Walpole, Chairman of the St Oswald & Llanymynech Local Joint Committee, said: "Spending money as wisely as possible is important for both the council and for local people and families. This meeting will offer a great chance for people to find out how the council plans to spend its money next year, and to tell us what they think about these plans. We'll also find out how we can all save money by simply wasting less food and I'm sure we'll all pick up some useful tip and advice. "I invite all local people to come along to hear about and discuss these issues, and any other matters of interest or concern." The deadline for bidding for the next round of funding from the committee's community fund is 26 February 2010 when groups can bid for up to £9,000. Local people or groups who would like to bid can contact Community Regeneration Officer, Debbie Marais on 01939 237413. The St Oswald and Llanymynech Local Joint Committee is one of 28 LJCs meeting four times a year across the Shropshire Council area.
