1) Insulation
The most cost effective way to save energy is often Insulation
Insulation of a loft is simple and you may be able to do it yourself
Cavity wall insulation for older properties is a must
Together they will save energy (Money)
Government grants are available in many cases.
Make sure the jacket on your hot water tank is at least 75mm thick. If not put another one over it or fit a new one. It will pay for itself within a year.
KITCHEN
Do not leave the door of your fridge open
Do not put hot food in the fridge
Check the seals.
Look out for the energy saving logo on new electrical appliances. Replacing an old fridge freezer could save you £45 per year
If you do not require a freezer use a larder fridge.
Only boil as much water as you really need
Radiators
Do not cover radiators with curtains or furniture
Put reflective panels behind radiators on outside walls.
Check that your boiler is working efficiently. If it is more than 15 years old you could probably make substantial savings by investing in a new high efficiency condensing boiler
