CADDIE

Here you can find up-to-date information about Crime and Disorder in your area. The CADDIE website has been built by Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships across Shropshire. CADDIE can help you see what is happening in your local area and how together, we are working to reduce crime, tackle the fear of crime and promote quality of life issues around Shropshire.

CADDIE (Crime And Disorder Data Information Exchange) came about as a solution to the sharing of crime and disorder data between the agencies that work together as Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). The Crime and Disorder Act states that responsible authorities must work together to reduce crime and the fear of crime, but one of the major challenges identified was communication - the sharing of data and information.

The CADDIE website therefore, aims to overcome the above problems by bringing together partnership data in one place where it can be accessed, researched and mapped by all the partners involved in crime and disorder reduction. The system also employs five partnership analysts to provide more detailed analysis to CDRPs.

Funding was secured in 2001 under the Home Office 'Invest to Save' budget to fund a pilot project of the CADDIE system within the Crawley Borough CDRP. This pilot was overseen by the National Police Information Technology Organisation (PITO) and due to its success secured further government funding and was successfully rolled out to Sussex, Kent and Wales.

CADDIE is a nationally recognised system having been nominated for a number of e-government awards including a commendation in the eWell-Being Awards 2004, and a contributor to the Home Office research paper 'Review of GIS-Information Sharing Systems'
