Community Crime and Disorder Task Group

The Crime and Disorder Task Group holds bi-monthly meetings which are well attended by County and District Councilors, West Mercia Police, Community Safety Officers, Neighbourhood Watch and Crime Prevention Panels, RAF Cosford Police, Parish and Town Councils. The strong core membership has remained stable since the group was first established in 1999. This year a number of joint initiatives have been launched such as the Property Marking Project using a new bar coding technology scheme for marking property was launched early in the year in Claverley it then went onto Albrighton and Broseley. This and the promotion of the scheme throughout these areas acted not only in aiding the rapid retrieval of stolen property, but also as a deterrent to thieves in the area.

The Crime and Disorder task group also supports all the Watch Schemes in Bridgnorth District which includes Shop watch, district wide pub watch and neighbourhood watch. The task group contributes to NHW by providing funding so that a newsletter can be posted or emailed to members of the scheme and also to set up new schemes in the district. The partnership supported this years Halloween no trick and no treat campaign.

pubwatchWith joint sponsorship from Hobson’s Brewery pub watch issued beer mats promoting the Bridgnorth district pub watch scheme. The group also funded the safer night life group which has provided information regarding licensing, beer mats, posters and the U21 scheme.

CCTV as become a important issue for the district, the group has been responsible for supporting and contributing over £19K for various CCTV schemes, additional camera’s and up-grading schemes. Groups who have benefited from funding are Bridgnorth Town Council, Shifnal Town Council, Much Wenlock Town Council, Alveley Pavilion and Albrighton Crime Prevention Panel.

The group as also funded high visibility jackets for volunteers working for the districts crime prevention panels and as contributed to a speed gun in Broseley/Much Wenlock.

Cycle Theft Prevention Packs have been produced to give people information on cycle theft prevention and labels to mark their bicycles. Packs include a wrap around label for attaching to the cycle, security tips and a recording form and will be available from local libraries, police stations and Bridgnorth District Council offices. Local cycle shop Paul’s Pedals are also supporting the scheme and packs will also be available there.
