Fears over Hip Implants

Following the withdrawal of the DePuy device, the British Hip Society and the British Orthopaedic Association said "Everyone with a hip replacement that has been withdrawn should be informed and told that they will be under close clinical follow-up."

Q. What should you do if you have had a hip operation and have not been contacted by the hospital where your hip operation was undertaken?

A. Contact the hospital where your hip operation was carried out and ask if you need to be put under close clinical follow-up and if not why not. The hospital will be only too delighted to give you an explanation - remember to ask for any explanation in writing for future reference.

Villagers say NO to development in Yockleton.

A packed meeting in Yockleton Village Hall was held to discuss planning issues in Yockleton on Monday the 23rd January. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Glyn Thomas - Westbury Parish Chairman who said the purpose of the meeting was to see if people who lived in Yockleton wanted development.

Mr. Roger Parry from Roger Parry & Partners gave an eloquent address to the meeting.  He provided an interesting explanation on the changes to planning regulations. He pointed out that communities who agreed to development would benefit from the newly introduced Community Infrastructure Levy. He also said that if the villagers decided not to support some form of development the  opportunity for development in Yockleton would be lost until 2026.

The Chairman asked for questions from the floor and a lively debate ensued for well over an hour after which a vote was taken - 82 villagers voted against development in Yockleton, 11 voted for development in Yockleton and 2 abstained.

The Chairman said he would convey the decision of the meeting to the Parish Council.

A copy of the Westbury Parish Council response to the Shropshire Local Development Framework Site Allocations consultation in June 2010 can be seen on the Parish council web site:

During the meeting the issue of the village hall was raised. It is patently obvious that the village hall is not well used by people from Yockleton. The committee of four local people who run the hall are in need of local help to repair the fabric of the building and generate more activity in the hall for people in the area. A sum of £30,000 was mentioned just to fix the roof.

Any one who feels that the hall should get more support and are willing to help should contact Samantha on 821360.
