Shrewsbury Town Centre Residents' Association

The STCRA aims to promote and represent the broad interests of all town centre residents, and to contribute to their quality of life.

In order to achieve these aims the Association will continue to:

• contribute to the development of policies for the town centre;
• make practical contributions to the improvement of the town centre through projects such as the restoration of Old St. Chads churchyard;
• build a community of residents through social and cultural activities.

The Association will enhance its own effectiveness by:

• increasing its membership, and by maintaining dialogue between members;
• co-operating with other agencies with interests in the town centre, including voluntary associations with related interests, private enterprise bodies and official authorities;
• co-operating and pooling experience with similar Residents Associations across the country.

Our Vision for the Town Centre

As residents in the heart of Shrewsbury we strongly desire to maintain the area within the river loop as a safe, attractive, and prosperous place not only in which to live, but also to share for work and play. We recognise and wish to keep a healthy variety and balance of activities in the town centre and believe that a strong resident community is vital to that balance.

We see Shrewsbury as the focal point of Shropshire and its border region, with a balance of industry, business, local government, education, tourist attractions, and leisure activities. It is vital that the town maintains economic strength and we believe that this can be compatible with conservation of its essential and uniquely historic character and established culture of quality, and individuality.

The Association intends to influence decisions, large and small, which may be of proper concern to its members and the well-being of the town. To this end we seek to work together with others to promote the realisation of our balanced vision for the whole of Shrewsbury, and in particular the town centre. Our aim is to be constructive, recognising the need for change and supporting those proposals that we see as in sympathy with our developing vision for Shrewsbury.
