The 21Kay Appeal

The 21Kay Appeal is raising funds for two pieces of much needed diagnostic equipment for the detection of bowel cancer and other serious bowel conditions for the colorectal unit at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

SUCCESS - THE FIRST PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IS ON IT'S WAY!

First, is an endo-anal ultrasound scanner and probe used to detect early cancers and assess damaged muscles, particularly in women after childbirth injuries. This equipment is needed to replace the current 14-year old model which gives a 2-Dimensional image, it has served us well, but needs replacing. The new equipment will provide a 3-Dimensional image, giving more detailed information to the surgeon.

.

CAN WE DO IT AGAIN WITH THE SECOND PIECE? - YOU DECIDE - WHEN MANY PEOPLE JOIN TOGETHER AND HELP, GREAT THINGS CAN BE ACHIEVED!

Second, is a transanal endoscopic microscope used for resecting large polyps. This piece of equipment is not currently available in our cancer network: Stoke, Stafford, Wolverhampton and Shropshire. A trained surgeon is on-hand - just the equipment is missing.
